Linomation - A Group Project

My name is Mark Andrew Webber - www.markandrewwebber.com

Currently trying to set about getting people interested in working on a collaborative project. The project is about creating a hand carved animation, using the medium of Linoleum Printmaking (called Linomation).

So far not much has been planned, I like the idea of people taking the project in a wider collaborative way and getting involved in all stages of the project. I think with hand carved animation, the main thing is that its very time consuming. Making a group project that utilises as many people as possible makes sense for this type of medium.

We would need to decide on the length, as a preliminary i was thinking about 10 mins. Pending on how many people we get involved it could be Longer. 10 mins would be about 7200 frames to carve.

Here are some previous examples of what i have created

My first ever Linomation - i've lost original file, sorry for bad quality

Second - Carving and Print of Typo Linomation

Third Linomation

With this kind of project there is a lot to consider, I do need others to help organise and help get this project moving, as well as the collaborative effort to carve the piece. For completing the project I will need:

People - Most important part
 - Organisers
 - Illustrators
 - Designers
 - Storyboarding
 - Printmakers
 - Various others

WEBSITE - i have the name Linomation.com But i am not a web designer. I do like the idea of having a website, like a forum of some kind where we can talk about the project or something else. I just dont know what would work most effectively for this kind of project.

I was even thinking workshops could be run giving people frames in the Linomation to carve, and they would then get to learn to print them, and keep the print they have made.

im thinking to make it all tie in, i would draw up a small template for all the frames, like a moving circle, or shapes on the key frames, so that at least one element is the same for the animation, each illustrator could do 10 seconds, changing the style in this way.

For this kind of project to really work, I think the carvings would hopefully get scanned before being printed, and then people would Printmake their carvings. Possibly even send in the carvings after they have printed prints for themselves, so that we have the collection for display, (but this kind of thing can be figured out later)

so just as a reminder the outcomes for the project will hopefully be:
Animation of carvings
Animation of Prints
Exhibition showing the project as a whole
Possible workshops involving people in the project
Teaching people about linocutting and printmaking

If you would like to get involved then please either email me and i will put your name on the email list, to email you with update son the project: markawebber@gmail.com

A lot of changes will no doubt happen to this idea, with peoples input, like trying to figure out a way of keeping the flow of the story right, and getting so many people together on a project. Lots of input is needed. Hopefully a Lot of fun and learning will be had! and most of all getting people to find people and talk about the world of printmaking.
